Beloved comic book writer Stan Lee passed away at age 95 on November 12, 2018. In collaboration with many others at Marvel, he has created numerous popular fictional characters including superheroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, and more.

Pop Culture Club at Valencia East Campus is home to a number of Marvel fans, and most were sad to hear the news of Lee’s passing.

Here’s what some Pop Culture Club members had to share:

“I think it’s very sad. The man has made a lot of good heroes, and his cameos were great. I really hope that his comics and movies can continue to be wonderful without his help. I’m sure his legacy will live on through the universe he’s created,” says Mark Casilla, 20-year-old computer science major.

Caple Golding, 20-year-old game design major says, “The man was 95 but at the same time he was such an icon to so many people, so to see him go already, people still think it was too soon.”

Pop Culture Vice President Randy Velez says, “I didn’t know too much about him, but I do know that he’s impacted a lot of Marvel fans. He opened the door to this creativity in that we can imagine to be the heroes we want to be. Rest in peace to Stan Lee, I give him my respect.”

“I feel very sad about it but at the same time I’m glad he did live a long life,” says Andre Hamilton, 26-year-old music technology major.

25-year-old computer technology specialist major James Bach remarks, “I cry at night, it’s devastating.” Pop Culture President, Michael Lerer agrees saying, “It is devastating, I’m still upset.”

“I knew Stan Lee’s death was going to happen eventually, but I didn’t imagine it would really impact me so hard, I spent the day crying. But I know his legacy will continue on with millions of fans around the world,” says Greg Valentin, 23-year-old computer science major.

Staci Fabii, 23-year-old business administration major says, “It was really heartbreaking to hear the news of his passing. He crafted such an amazing legacy during his lifetime and has forever immortalized himself in the world of pop culture.”

Pop Culture Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. in Building 6, Room 222. Meeting time and location are subject to change in the coming spring semester.
