Magic blowout Pistons

ORLANDO — Andrew Nicholson had 15 points, 4 rebounds as the Orlando Magic defeated the Detroit Pistons 90-74, Wednesday night at the Amway Center.

“We just worked together, my teammates found me and I found them,” said Nicholson on the win. “I’m still going to get better.”

The Magic came into the game looking to rebound after losing their second consecutive loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

Orlando began the third quarter, taking the lead with a 17-0 run, leading Detroit 62-48 with 6:50 in the third quarter.

“Andrew has continued to grow trust from the coach staff, he’s been great,” said head coach Jacque Vaughn on Nicholson’s impressive performance. “He was good, we needed some more punch.”

Orlando held Detroit down for most of the third quarter, allowing 8 points, leaving the Pistons to score their first points 2:15 into the third quarter when Rodney Stuckey shot a pair of free throws.

Maurice Harkless made his first career NBA start, scoring 7 points and 4 rebounds to add to his debut.

“He was good, we needed some more punch,” said Vaughn on Harkless professional debut. “We’ve had injuries and sickness, but we’ve done good.”

With foul trouble early on in the game, Glen Davis sat out most of the game despite scoring 11 points, 14 rebounds for a double-double

“We can’t sit back and just watch, we got to get these wins, so we can compete in the Eastern Conference,” said Davis. “I’m just going to play and help my team win.”

Jameer Nelson was quiet in the first half, only scoring 3 points and having 3 assists, but finished with 10 points and 7 assists.

Despite trailing the Pistons by 10 in the first half, Orlando was able to cut the lead down to 3 when J.J. Redick drilled a three pointer with two minutes left in the second quarter.

J.J. Redick inspired an early run and that was all the Magic needed and they never looked back, shooting 4-13, Redick posted 11 points and 7 assists despite playing as a sixth man for much of the game.

“It’s a cyclical thing for us to play more defense we got to play more offense, and for us to play more offense we got to play more defense,” said Redick

The Magic look to keep the momentum going as they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday before ending November at home when Boston and San Antonio come to Orlando.
