Knights lose non-conference game

Knights+lose+non-conference+game

UCF couldn’t seem to get anything going Saturday evening, as the Knights fell to Presbyterian 7-2.

LHP Brian Adkins started the game for UCF, and was rocked early. Adkins was pulled with just one out in the second inning, after allowing six runs on six consecutive hits. Adkins was just one start removed from his complete game, one-run loss last week – the best outing of his career.

Garrett Nuss entered the game for Adkins, and managed to stop the bleeding. Nuss threw seven shutout innings before surrendering a run in the ninth, and allowed just four runners to reach base in his final six innings.

But, the UCF batters couldn’t do anything when they had runners on base. The Knights went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and did not post back-to-back hits once in the game.

Both runs came off of solo homers by D.J. Hicks and Alex Friedrich. For Hicks, the home run was his 11th of the season, and he has now driven in a team high 61 runs.

The three-game series between these two teams will continue Monday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for noon.

UCF will send junior Chris Matulis to the mound, while Presbyterian will start freshman Beau Dees. Matulis is 5-0 and boasts a 2.92 era on the season, and Dees is 3-5 with a 4.50 era.
