New York Red Bulls Vs Orlando City

By Manuel Chimoy

Orlando City lost the October 28 game against New York Red Bulls 1-0. With this win, the Red Bulls won the 2018 supporters shield.

The Red Bulls set a new record for most points in a season with 71 points, breaking the 2017 record made by Toronto FC with 69 points.

Red Bulls were dominating the majority of the first half. In the 14th minute, Mohamed El-Munir tackled F. Bradley Wright-Phillips in the box, which resulted in a penalty call. Adam Grinwis was the starting goalkeeper for Orlando for that game. He saved the penalty that was shot from Derrick Etienne Jr which was an incredible save.

Late first half and mid to late second half, Orlando City was in control. The first goal of the game came from Derrick Etienne Jr redeeming himself after the penalty he missed, with his goal was in the 53rd minute. Dom Dwyer scored a goal with a header past Luis Robles from a Mohamed El-Munir assist, but the referee called it an offside, so it didn’t count.

“The Orlando team has to step it up. We lost a lot this season. I think that if we buy the right players for next season and also stick with a few of the old ones, we might have a chance next season hopefully if everything goes well,” said Daniel Mendes, an Orlando City fan.

“I think the reason why we couldn’t do good is because the team didn’t fit into O’Connor system so next season it should be better since he can bring and sell players, he doesn’t need to make the team better and to fit in his system,” Said Nick Hernandez, an Orlando City fan.

“From my stand point, the first half we were in the game. I thought we caused them some problems going into the second half, then we hope we can carry on and unfortunately give away a soft goal you know obviously Dom had a great chance went off sides, so we battled the way second half, but I think for the vision that we have and what’s going to come and the implementation of change, and I think that’s something that were certainly ready for,” said James O’Connor, the Orlando City coach.
