LIVE BLOG: Orlando Predators vs. Philadelphia Soul

The Orlando Predators open up the 2015 Arena Football League season against the Philadelphia Soul. Predators beat writer Bryce Brimhall will be updating this blog throughout the game..

Pregame notes – Former Tampa Bay Storm QB Randy Hippeard is set to start for Orlando tonight instead of Bernard Morris. | Orlando has a good chance to get an early lead in the division with the losses of Tampa and Jacksonville this week.

*** End of Game*** – The Orlando Predators fail to make a touchdown on their last drive and lose to the Philadelphia Soul 70-63.

0:12 – McDaniels makes a diving catch in the endzone to bring Philly up 68-63. The two-point conversion  is good with a dive from Marco Thomas widening the gap to 70-63.

0:36 – Larry Brackins reaches over his defender to catch a 3-yard pass from Hippeard on 3rd down. With the PAT, Orlando goes up 63-62.

2:21 -Ryan McDaniels catches an over the shoulder pass to bring Philly up 62-56. The PAT is no good, but they retry due to a penalty from Orlando, but is stopped short again.

5:56 – Greg Carr shows his vertical ability for his first touchdown of the night to catch a high pass from Hippeard. The good extra point ties the game 56-56.

8:43 – Randy Hippeard throws an interception to Soul defensive back James Romain who runs it back for a touchdown. The points after are good bringing Philly up 56-49.

10:28 – Fumble on the play but Orlando recovers on the 20-yard line which brings up 3rd down.

11:41 – Marco Thomas scores for Philadelphia but remain behind at 49-48. The two-point conversion is stopped short.

***End of the 3rd*** – Orlando holds a 7 point lead at the end of the third. With Philly only attempting 2 point conversions Orlando has to as well to keep up.

0:05 – Thompkins catches his second touchdown of the night to bring their lead to 49-42 going into the fourth quarter.

1:11 – A Soul touchdown by Kaleinamoku ties the game 42-42.

5:23 – Kendal Thompkins catches his first touchdown pass of the night, an easy one at that, to score for Orlando. Lewis makes the kick to bring Orlando back up 42-36.

6:37 – Marco Thomas catches an 11-yard pass in the endzone for 6 points for Philly. The two point conversion to offensive lineman Adam Smith is good. Philly leads 36-35.

10:58 – After a four minute drive, Brackins catches a 6-yard pass for an Orlando touchdown. The point after is good, Orlando leads 35-28.

***Halftime*** – The Predators go into the locker room tied 28-28. They will receive the ever-crucial second half kickoff to start the third quarter. A score on their first drive will put them in position to win if they keep the scoring to one-for-one.

0:42 – Shaun Kauleinamoku catches a long pass from Radabaugh for a Soul touchdown. The two-point conversion is good to tie the game at 28-28.

0:56 – Larry Brackins breezes into the endzone wide open and catches a pass from Hippeard for the touchdown. Lewis makes the kick bringing Orlando up 28-20.

1:00 – The ball is knocked lose but is recovered by Orlando setting them on Philadelphia’s 16-yard line.

3:16 – Hippeard lobs a pass to a wide open Justin Hilton for a 25-yard touchdown. With the successful PAT, Orlando is up 21-20.

6:04 – Soul QB Dan Radabaugh misses the shovel pass and the ball is recovered by Predator Erick McIntosh who brings it to Philadelphia’s 12-yard line.

***End of 1st*** – Orlando is down 20-14. After an action packed first quarter, the Predators looked promising, not losing any opportunities to score besides the muffed kick that resulted in a touchdown for Philadelphia.

0:35 – Hippeard connects with Justin Hilton who stretches for the touchdown catch closing the gap. Philly leads 20-14.

2:58 – Bryan Randall muffs the kick and the ball bounces off Arness Ikner then is recovered by Xavier Boyce who returns it for a Soul touchdown. After another failed two point conversion, Philadelphia leads 20-7.

3:10 – Touchdown for Philadelphia. A 28-yard pass to former AFL first team receiver Marco Thomas connects for touchdown. The two point conversion is stopped just short of the endzone. Philadelphia leads 12-7.

6:54 – Touchdown for Orlando. After a pass to TE Ray Dominguez putting the on the 2-yard line, Randy Hippeard pushes his way into the endzone. The extra point is good bringing Orlando up 7-6.

10:42 – Touchdown for Philadelphia. Dan Radabaugh makes a fourth down pass to Ryan McDaniels for the touchdown, but miss the PAT. Kicker Carlos Martinez is walked off the field, looks like an injury.

15:00 – Predators win the coin toss and choose to defer and will kick the ball off to Philadelphia. Mark Lewis kicks for a touchback, Philadelphia will start on the 5-yard line.
