Solar Bears return home for two-game series against Greenville

The Orlando Solar Bears have started the season with a 3-3-2-0 record, putting them in seventh in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference standings.

Orlando has been led so far Jacob Cepris, who is tied for second in the league with his eight assists through eight games. The Solar Bears have also benefited from the solid goalie play of Garret Sparks, who is currently 2-0 between the pipes, and has a goals allowed average of 1.22, which puts him atop all league goalies who’ve played more than 60 minutes.

The Solar Bears return to the Amway Center this weekend for a two-game series against division rival Greenville Road Warriors. Orlando swept Greenville to open up the season behind two great performances by Sparks.

Teachers can expect a pleasant surprise this weekend if they make it out to one of the games, as the Solar Bears are celebrating Teacher’s Appreciation Weekend, where teachers can get discounted tickets online. The Bears will also be bringing out the vintage jerseys from their IHL days this weekend.

Orlando comes into the weekend series riding a two-game losing streak, which came at the hands of in-state rival Florida Everblades last weekend.

Following this short homestand the Solar Bears will go on a road trip that won’t see them play another game at home for exactly a month, when they play the Elmira Jackals on December 9.

Orlando will have a new face on the ice this weekend, as they aquired Jake Parenteau from the Iowa Wild (AHL).

Puck-drop for Saturday’s game is set for 7 p.m. at the Amway Center, with Sunday’s game starting at a special early time of 1 p.m.
