Hero MotoCorp to serve as Hero World Challenge new title sponor

Hero MotoCorp will take over as title sponsor for the World Golf Challenge begining this year.

The Tiger Woods Foundation and Tavistock Group announced India-based Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, will become the new title sponsor of the Hero World Challenge, beginning this year.

“This tournament has been an integral part of my foundation since 1999 and has raised $25 million for my foundation and local charities,” said Tiger Woods. “We are thrilled to partner with Tavistock Group to make the tournament an even stronger platform for the game of golf and I am very excited to welcome Hero MotoCorp as title sponsor. They are a global brand and a great fit for the Hero World Challenge.”

Hero MotoCorp sells more than six million two-wheelers annually. The New Delhi (India)-headquartered company currently sells motorbikes and scooters in 20 countries across Asia, Africa, and South and Central America. Hero is projecting mass production numbers for the next few years, and aims to be present in 50 countries by the year 2020.

“There is much to be proud of as we gather here today to announce the title sponsorship of the World Challenge, which from now on will be called the Hero World Challenge, a tournament known across the world as a premier invitational hosted by Tiger Woods,” said Hero vice-chairman and CEO Pawan Munjal. “It serves as a perfect platform for us to start our journey in these lands at these levels.”

This will be the 16th annual World Challenge hosted by Woods, which for the last 15 years was contested at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, CA. The tournament will move coasts, moving to Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Orlando.

Host Tiger Woods, along with 17 of the PGA TOUR’s best players will compete for a $3.5 million purse. The 72-hole, stroke play event will take place the week of Dec. 1-7.
