ORLANDO — Central Florida last saw a high-profile boxing match in 1989, but that changes on October 5, when four-time champion Miguel Cotto goes toe-to-toe with top-five contender Delvin Rodriguez at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando.

The 12-round super welterweight bout will be Cotto’s Florida debut and will feel like a home game for the Puerto Rican born fighter who usually trains in Orlando. Cotto has decided to train in Hollywood, Calif. with Freddie Roach at his Wild Card Gym for this fight.

“I’ve been away from boxing for a long time,” said Cotto during last month’s press conference for the fight. “And it’s great to be back, it’s great to feel the energy you guys bring here today.”

Cotto (37-4, 30 KOs) is currently on a two-fight losing streak, which started with a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. back in May of 2012. Cotto started his professional boxing career in 2001 and won his first 32 fights before suffering his first professional loss in August of 2008 against Antonio Margarito.

Rodriguez will go into the October matchup sporting a 28-6-3 record with 16 KOs, while also riding a two-fight winning streak in which both of his wins came by TKO.

“I’m motivated more than ever,” said Rodriguez during the July 23 press conference for the fight. “Because facing a fighter like Miguel Cotto, who’s been fighting the best in the division for forever; a true champion, a true warriors, it’s something that motivates me.”

Cotto vs. Rodriguez will be televised by HBO Boxing and will be co-promoted by Top Rank and Miguel Cotto Promotions. The October 5th bout will also mark the first-ever professional boxing event held in the Amway Center .

Also expected to fight on the undercard of Cotto vs. Rodriguez is undefeated Terence Crawford (21-0, 16 KOs), but his opponent is not yet certain.

Tickets for Cotto vs. Rodriguez are already on sale and can be purchased through amwaycenter.com, the Chase Box Office at Amway Center box office or via Ticketmaster. Ticket prices vary from $25, $50, $100 & $150.
