Orlando City rebounds from Saturday loss, shutting out VSI Tampa FC 3-0

ORLANDO– Orlando City (13-3-6, 45 points) bounced back after being shutout at home Saturday night, defeating cross-state VSI Tampa Bay FC (9-9-4, 31 points) 3-0 at Plant City Stadium in Plant City, Fla.

“It’s a great response from the players tonight after Saturday night,” stated Orlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath. “We regrouped today and put fresh legs in, getting some really good performances. We have to focus in on Wednesday’s match, but this certainly puts us on a good platform moving forward.“

City moved closer to the top of the USL Pro standing, now trailing leaders Richmond Kickers by only three points.  Prior to the game it was announced by the league office that the club has clinched a spot in the postseason with four games still remaining on their regular season schedule.

Sporting Kansas City loanee C.J. Sapong- who assisted on the first goal coming in the 15th minute of play after fellow loanee Christian Duke headed in his cross, is now eligible for the 2013 postseason following Sunday’s appearance.

Defenders, Rob Valentino and Luke Boden, hooked up for Valentino’s second goal of the season following Boden’s free kick attempt that Valentino headed in right before taking the locker room at halftime.

Freddie Braun continued City’s dominance, netting in an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute giving the club a three-goal lead, marking goalkeeper, Miguel Gallardo, fifth shutout of the season.

City’s next match-up is at home on Wednesday, where they will face Tampa in a game that was originally scheduled for April 30, but cancelled due to severe weather conditions.  All ticket stubs from the April 30 game will be valid for the Aug., 7 match-up.  The game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
