ORLANDO — “The Rust Belt Project” takes people on a journey to discover America’s industrial past and present.

Kevin Paul Giordano, a Valencia professor, uses photographs and interviews gathered throughout rust belt cities for his new documentary film.

“I care about American industry and what the new economy brought to the country,” said Giordano. “Its about the actual buildings and architecture, the combination of architecture and nature.”

The project started as a book while Giordano was living in Appalachia and about a year ago he published an essay.

Giordano says the move from book to documentary was organic and its part of a still developing project.

The documentary will be screening at Urban ReThink on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:25 p.m. It’s located at 625 E. Central Blvd in the Thornton Park district of downtown Orlando.

The screening will be accompanied by a discussion with Giordano as well as a presentation of his photographs.

The event will also include a presentation by Bob Snead, a New Orleans artist and community organizer.
