Solar Bears cap off five game series with authority

ORLANDO — Dan Gendur lead the Orlando Solar Bears, scoring four goals for a 8-4 victory against the Florida Everblades on Friday, Dec. 28 at the Amway Center.

“You never really go into a game thinking ‘I’m going to score four goals,'” said Gendur. “I was a little frustrated for sure, the last three or four games, with not being able to score as much.”

The Solar Bears score eight goals on the last game of a five game series against the Everblades.

“It’s obviously nice to win four in five games against our arch rivals,” said Gendur. “You never expect that in a five game series.”

In total the Solar Bears won four out of the five games and ended with a three game winning streak.

“We played a great first two periods. We came out and we stuck to the game plan and we had some success,” said Orlando Solar Bears head coach Drake Berehowsky. “We take nothing for granted, they are a great team.”

Gendur’s fourth and final goal came at 11:52 of the second period, with an assist by Matthew Sisca, exactly a minute after making his third goal at 10:52 of the second period, with assists by Edward Levens and Derrick Burnett.

“For the fourth one, me and the assistant coach had been working on some things in the power play,” said Gendur. “He proved me right on that one.”

Gendur also scored at 19:17 of the first period and opened the game up with his first goal at 1:03 of the first period, with an assist by Matthew Sisca.

“I just tried to hit it as hard as I could,” said Gendur about his first goal of the night. “I wasn’t aiming or anything like that.”

This marks the most goals made by Gendur during a game and leaves him with ten goals this season.

“I came here to help with some scoring and some offense,” said Gendur. “That is the way I play.”

Also with more than one goal for the Solar Bears on Friday was Ryan Reaves, scoring two goals.

“I’m trying to be a more well rounded player, I think I can take that opportunity,” said Reaves. “I want to develop my skills here, where I have a little more freedom.”

Reaves’ first goal came at 6:53 of the first period, with an assist by C.J. Severyn.

His second goal came at 4:51 of the third period, with assists by Ryan Cruthers and Derick Martin.

For the second game in a row Scott Tanski delivered the game winning goal against Florida, which came at 7:29 of the second period, with assists by Michael Neal and Derick Martin.

The other goal was scored by C.j. Severyn at 1:30 of the second period, with an assist by Bryce Lampman.

The Solar Bears will play their next game against the Evansville Icemen on Jan. 4, but will not return home until Jan. 17 with a game against the Wheeling Nailers.
