“It’s a club for people, both musicians and singers alike, to be able to come together and share a common interest,” says JamHouse President Gabbi King, 20, Communications.
The club tabled the “Purrcy’s Walk of Fame” resource event that took place on January 17, giving away stickers and performing for those who would like to play an instrument.
The main objective of the club is to create a place where students could “Perform together, have fun together, without the pressure of being professional and being perfect all the time…” King added.
They offered a welcoming environment where even if members didn’t perform, King attributed that they could still attend meetings to “hang out and chill.”
Social Media Manager Nick Crown, 20, History, says, “A lot of our events are collaborations with Student Development.” They have an Instagram page and a Discord server.
Club Secretary Richi Naimul, 19, is responsible for the management, and time tracking. She pursues a Computer Science major, also separate from performing arts, emphasizing that virtually anyone can join the group and perform with JamHouse or attend the meetings.
Their members are encouraged to bring their instruments, and the playlist for the performances is chosen by the participants themselves with Naimul deciding who gets to perform the songs.
The band plans to have a “Love Song” event for Valentine’s Day. Other future performances include Black History Month with its date still yet to be revealed.
The club meets in East Campus Building 3 Room 124 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. every Thursday.
