At East Campus’ Spring 2024 resource fair “Purrcy’s Walk of Fame” on Wednesday, January 17, representatives from several campus clubs set up tables to advertise their groups. Students at the event could explore the different options and learn more about clubs that piqued their interest.
Pop Culture Club is one of many campus organizations available for Valencia students looking to expand their social circles. Many attendees were drawn to the display of toys and figurines decorating the table manned by the student leaders of the Pop Culture Club, a club designed to bring people together through the power of fandom.
The club’s mission statement describes the group’s goal to “unite people of different backgrounds and interests to share their passion for Science Fiction and Fantasy, Anime, Horror, Gaming, Comics, Film, Music, Science and Multimedia.”
Due to the broad spectrum of interests falling under the pop culture umbrella, the club has something for everyone. Pop Culture Club Treasurer Miguel Batista explains, “It’s way more than just anime.”
With so many potential common interests to connect over, the Pop Culture Club is a great option for students looking to expand their social circle.
“It’s like a big friend group,” Vice President Jay Hunter said.
Club President Sarah Beasley emphasized the close bonds made by club members. “We’re family in here,” she said.
The club meetings offer varying activities week-to-week and include things like pop-culture themed games and crafts as well as opportunities for students to relax and watch their favorite shows together.
Many club students attend events together off-campus. “We do a lot of meetups outside the club like conventions. Or we go to local places and hang out together,” Beasley explained.
Students interested in joining the Pop Culture Club can attend meetings every Tuesday on Valencia’s East Campus, Bldg. 8-120 from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
