Review: Drama Queens Live! One Tree Hill Day Virtual Event
September 24, 2021
The One Tree Hill podcast Drama Queens celebrates the anniversary of The CW Network’s hit teen drama series as the beloved show turned 18 this year. One Tree Hill saw nine seasons from 2003-2012 with a top weekly viewership of 4.3 million during its peak second season according to Hollywood Reporter. The streaming platform Looped aired a two-hour One Tree Hill, or OTH, Drama Queens Live! On Demand virtual event with former cast members and hosts Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Hilarie Burton Morgan. The event was $25 and all proceeds went to the girl-against-girl, anti-bullying organization Kind Campaign. Three special guests for the event included singers Jimmie Allen and Gavin DeGraw as well as actress Danneel Ackles.
Country music singer Jimmie Allen shared an anecdote about being a fan of the show since the very beginning and calling the actors by their character’s names. Allen’s single “Best Shot” was incorporated into the show. Allen also performed a song from the show colloquially called “Naley’s Song”. Singer Gavin DeGraw also guest starred. DeGraw’s song “I Don’t Want To Be” was used as the One Tree Hill theme song. The show’s main villain Rachel Gatina, actress Danneel Ackles, also attended the event. The character was introduced in the third season and changed the characters’ lives. Ackles talked about how she was nervous joining the cast in her first big acting role. The hosts played truth or dare, answered fan questions, and Joy shared how to make some signature cocktails.
At the end of the night, Molly Thompson and Lauren Paul, cofounders of Kind Campaign, talked about their company, its purpose, and how to help. Kind Campaign is a tax-deductible 501(c)(3) non-profit organization responsible for organizing school Kind Clubs nationwide and offering free assemblies to promote kindness.
