On Friday nights, you might be able to find some of Orlando’s most exciting artists, merchants, and music producers gathered together and showcasing their work at Bass Night.
BassNight is an underground event with a focus on music, art, and community that takes place at the Henao Contemporary Center. The event has showcased over 100 national and international music artists as well as visual artists and merchants.
“We wanted to give a festival vibe so we can have something good to look forward to at the end of the week to come together with friends and family,” Hardy said. “Instead of waiting for the next camping festival like Okeechobee that didn’t happen this year, thankfully we have this to look forward to.”
One of the goals behind BassNight is to provide a space where people can showcase their art. “In the last 2 years I’ve met so many different people and just over time you talk to these people and they tell me what they do, and I say why don’t you bring your art in and do it while we’re here,” Hardy said.
Local merchant Leia Nicole was there to sell her self-made jewelry and help visiting vendors.
“This is my first BassNight,” Nicole said, “I’ve worked a couple of festivals with a few friends. This venue is amazing. I’d love to participate more here in terms of vending and just overall having a good time here, I feel good here.”
Other merchants included Collective Perspectiv, Soul Sunshine Goods, and Tame Mane, who sell a variety of jewelry, wood art, paintings, and clothes. Most of these artists are Orlando-based, however, visiting or traveling artists and vendors are welcome. Many of the vendors on-site already had made connections with one another through other festivals and events.
While BassNight now happens every Friday night at the Henao, the show is likely to never be the same each time.
“The show itself is always changing,” Hardy said, “We had video walls this week and projections on the outside. Next week we’ll have production inside. They’ll be choreographed dancers and yoga performers.”
