Orlando Magic: Quick fix at the 6 spot?

The Orlando Magic collected the rights to the sixth pick in the 2017 NBA Draft slated for June 22nd on ESPN. Head Coach Frank Vogel represented the Magic at this year’s NBA Draft Lottery selection show.

Magic fans can find hope in this year’s draft position as recent sixth overall picks include a quality group of current NBA talent like Damian Lillard (2012), Marcus Smart (2015), and Buddy Hield (2016).

Bleacher Report’s latest mock draft has the Magic selecting Kentucky freshman Malik Monk sixth overall. Monk averaged 19.8 points per game last year while adding 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per to go along with his scoring (per ESPN.com).

Monk set the Kentucky freshman record for points in a game with 47 against North Carolina on December 17, 2016. Monk was also voted the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year for 2017. Monk is an explosive scorer from all three levels of the court and has “star” qualities the Magic are looking for through their current re-build.

The former McDonald’s All-American, Monk, could be just what the Magic need to take the next step in becoming competitive in the Eastern Conference.
