Under the Rock: Rivers Monroe
Rivers Monroe talks new album ‘Smart Girls, Warped Tour 2015, touring & more
Every summer, for the past 21 years, Vans Warped tour has been traveling around United States providing music festival-goers with an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of their favorite rock bands. With more than 60 artist across nine-stages, attendees get the opportunity to not only see their favorite bands throughout the day, but also discover other acts in their spare times.
At this year’s Vans Warped Tour, one of those genuinely interesting discoveries came by the name of pop-punk rock band Rivers Monroe, who played the Ernie Ball Stage. Emerging from from the Philadelphia music scene, the quintet: consisting of vocalist Mat Rivers and Mike Monroe, bassist Kirby San, drummer Kevin Sitaras and guitarist Matt “Doc” Varga has made a name for themselves performing as support for artist like Paramore, All Time Low, Fun., Incubus, Phoenix and more.
Rivers Monroe sophomore studio album, “Smart Girls,” is currently available, and was released earlier this month. The album’s lead single “Satellite” is currently making its way up the radio airwaves; and the video to the second single “Hero Inside” is creating a social impact online, as it follows the daily life of a young boy diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes shortly after he was born, showing the courage and fortitude that embody what it means to be a hero.
The Valencia Voice caught up Rivers Monroe at Vans Warped Tour in Orlando to discuss their new album, “Smart Girls,” touring, the Philadelphia music scene and more.
