American Athletic Conference sends four teams to regionals

Jimmy Herget went 9-3 with a 2.95 ERA through 94.2 innings pitched so far this season for USF.

The American Athletic Conference had four of it’s baseball teams selected for NCAA regionals with Houston being one of the 16 host sites.

American Athletic Conference champions East Carolina will be playing in the Miami regional as a No. 2 seed, while Tulane got an at-large bid and are in the Baton Rouge regional with a No. 3 seed.

USF also received an at-large bid and are playing in the Gainesville regional as the third seed.  The Bulls will open up play in the Gainesville regional against second-seeded FAU on Friday at 1 p.m. at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium.

This marks the first regional bid for USF since 2002 and it comes in new head coach Mark Kingston’s first year at the helm in Tampa.

The Bulls record is 33-24-1 so far this and they are led by pitcher Jimmy Herget who is 9-3 with a 2.95 ERA and 109 strikeouts so far this season.
