President Donald Trump has announced that Central Florida would be the official site for his first reelection campaign rally.
The event will take place at the Amway Center on June 18th. President Trump will be visiting with First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and the Second Lady Karen Pence.
The news sparked immediate response among Floridians.
Pulse shooting survivor and political activist Brandon Wolf created a Facebook group to promote a counter-rally the day of the president’s visit. The “Resist Hate Rally” received support from democratic figures throughout Central Florida.
House Representative for Florida’s 47th district, Anna Eskamani, showed her support for the counter-rally on Twitter. “Orlando is a city that embraces diversity and advocates for equal rights; we lead with peace and justice,” Eskamani said, “I support the efforts by Brandon Wolf and others planning the [counter rally] because it’s important we demonstrate what values define us as Central Floridians.”
