On Friday, March 8th, the world celebrated International Women’s Day, a day in recognition of all women and their achievements of peace. The Valencia College West Campus Peace and Justice Institute celebrated International Women’s Day early on March 5th with a breakfast and inviting students and the community.
Men, women, students, faculty, and community members came to the breakfast with open minds and open hearts. A few women from different backgrounds were invited to be table leaders and host discussions about their life stories and achievements against stereotypes and doubt. Topics such as spiritual lives and worldly challenges were discussed amongst the tables and later shared with the entire room.
Valencia’s Peace and Justice Institute seeks to make a difference in the community and throughout campus by promoting respect and dignity for all people. With events like the breakfast, students are encouraged to become an ambassador with Peace and Justice and to learn more about how to help others and make a difference in the world.
