Orlando City draws against Charleston in shortened game

Brek Shea scored early in the game as Orlando City tied the Charleston Battery 1-1.

Brek Shea scored a goal early but Orlando City SC played to a 1-1 draw against the Charleston Battery in a game that only lasted 26 minutes due to inclement weather on the second day of the Carolina Challenge Cup on Wednesday.

Shea scored in the 10th minute of the game after being feed a pass by captain Kaká for Shea’s first goal in an Orlando City uniform.

Charleston tied the game in the 25th minute on a goal from Navion Boyd. The game was delayed soon after the goal due to heavy storms in the area, with the game eventually ending in a 1-1 draw without conclusion of the final 64 minutes.

Orlando City currently sits third in the table of the Carolina Challenge Cup with two points. The Lions’ final game of the tournament will be against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Battery — a USL team — lead the table with four points and will have a chance to clinch a championship with a win over New York City FC on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
