Victor Oladipo out indefinitely after sustaining facial injury

Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo will be out indefinitely after sustaining a facial fracture during practice on Tuesday.

Oladipo will undergo surgery on Saturday to fix the injury, but their is no timetable for his return. The second-year guard was hoping to play in the Magic’s final preseason game on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks, after missing the opening weeks of the preseason with a sprained MCL.

The injury game early during a Magic team scrimmage on Tuesday, Oladipo took an elbow under his right eye from a teammate during the scrimmage, which led to the facial fracture.

With Oladipo now expected out for a lengthy amount of time, it will now be up to rookie point guard Elfrid Payton to orchestrate the Orlando offense in his absence. Payton is averaging 6.3 points, 5.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game through seven preseason games.

The Magic will close out the preseason on Friday against the Mavericks, before starting the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 28 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
