Resident Evil haunted maze joins Universal Halloween Horror Nights
September 5, 2013
Universal Orlando Resort has announced the final haunted house theme for their yearly spook-fest — Resident Evil: Escape from Raccoon City, will be the final maze for Halloween Horror Nights 23.
While Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles shares two of the same haunted houses as Universal Orlando — Evil Dead and The Walking Dead — Capcom has teamed up with the Universal Entertainment team and created a landscape where guest must travel through the streets of Racoon City, battling Hunters, Lickers and Nemeses, made uniquely for Orlando.
“Resident Evil is a perfect final addition to Halloween Horror Nights 23,” said Michael Aiello, Creative Director for Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights. “We were able to create incredibly elaborate sets that plant you right in the midst of Raccoon City’s apocalyptic nightmare, along with terrifying adversaries that will send them running.”
Modeled similar to the Resident Evil house which first appeared at Universal Studios Japan horror night in 2012, the maze is influenced after Resident Evil 2 & 3 and not the film.
Those willing to fight for their survival will be be completely transported inside the video game realm – with one room in the haunted house set to resemble an action-packed fight scene on pause, before making their way back into the streets of Raccoon City.
“It’s such a great delight to work with Universal on a haunted house based on the Resident Evil games,” said Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, Producer of Resident Evil 6. “The games have become synonymous with survival horror and we look forward to delivering a new way for consumers to experience the Resident Evil world we have created in the haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights.”
In total Halloween Horror Nights 23 will feature eight haunted houses/mazes this year and will take place on select nights from Sept. 20 to Nov. 2. Tickets and vacation packages are on sale now and can be purchased at http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/orlando.
Due to the event’s popularity, tickets for weekend nights are expected to sell out and should be purchased well in advance. For a detailed listing of each experience featured at this year’s event, see Universal Orlando’s details below.
